The Ball is in Play!!!

Last Sunday, we witnessed the historic moment for Malaysian Baseball when we launched the inaugural Malaysian All-Star League Baseball (MALB) for its first season of 2006. Y.Bhg Dato' Noh Abdullah, the President of the Baseball Federation of Malaysia gave an opening speech, addressed to almost all members of the participating teams, witnessed by a humble crowd of suppoters and fans.

Aces of Kepong, Stars of Selayang, All-Stars and Diamond of Kuala Lumpur turned up in full Baseball jerseys, with high spirits, played the inaugural 2 games. Aces created history when they won the 1st match of the 1st season, beating Stars of Selayang in a tough match, edging them 9 to 7. The second game was between siblings (All-Stars and Diamond team are owned by the Malaysian All-Star Baseball Club), which interestingly saw the 13 member All-Stars team trashing the 16 member Diamond team, 21 to 11.

League standings, All-Stars lead the race, closely followed by Aces, Stars and Diamond. This coming Sunday (5th March 2006) promises another exciting 2 matches, set between Bat Magnum vs Noble and Stars vs All-Stars. The second game could be an interesting one, watching the Coach going against its students (All-Stars and Diamond teams were jointly coached by Stars and Cougars, where they regularly hold centralized training sessions in Pandan and Keramat.)

On behalf of the Secretariat, I'm extremely proud to see the show of support by all participating teams, namely Aces (whom have never participated in any local Baseball tournaments before), Stars (one of the Baseball supremo teams in Malaysia), Bat Magnum (a team sponsored by Magnum Corporation), Noble (a new team consisting of senior and experienced players), Diamond (a young, eager team of players) and All-Stars (a good mix of artiste, junior, senior and professional citizens of Malaysia).

Remember, its not about who wins and who looses. Its about having fun, getting to know each other, tightening the bond between local teams, and dignifying Baseball in the eyes of Malaysia.

Players... Let's Play Ball.
